Ministers of Holy Communion

Ministers for Holy Communion
~ the Eucharist from the Greek eucharístia gratefulness, thanksgiving.

The administration of Holy Communion during the Mass is truly a ministry. It is the ministry of bringing the sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ to the People of God. It is also the ministry of witnessing to faith in the real presence of Christ in the action of sharing in the Eucharistic meal of Christ’s
sacrifice. The ministry of the Eucharist should, therefore, be treated with utmost dignity and reverence.

People who serve as extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion show the greatest reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire, and the manner in which they handle the consecrated bread or wine.

They help with the matters related to setup for and distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass as well as cleanup. Some take the Eucharist to homebound parishioners, nursing homes, hospitals or other such institutions.

Is God inviting you to serve as a special minister of Holy Communion ?
