St. Joseph Church celebrates baptisms during the 10 am and 12 noon Masses on Sunday. Baptism can also be scheduled on Sundays at 1:30 pm after the 12 noon Mass.
Please read the guidelines for parents and godparents and if you would like to schedule your child’s baptism, call the parish office at 973-697-6100.
Through Baptism, children begin to share the life of Christ with others. The Catholic community of St. Joseph Church helps families prepare for the Sacrament of Baptism. We are happy to answer questions and address concerns.
We look forward to supporting you as you fulfill the sacred duty to share the gift of our Catholic faith with your child!
The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that parents are the first teachers of the faith for their children. Parents are invited to participate in the preparation for the baptism of their children to help develop their faith as well as the faith of their children. .
Scheduling your Child's Baptism
Please be attentive to the steps of preparation:
. Call the parish office [973.697.6100] and express your desire to have your child baptized.
. Introduce yourself to Fr. Jakob if you do not already know him.
. Participate in baptismal preparation. […unless you have been present at this session within the last three years.]
. Be open to the invitation to actively join the faith community of St. Joseph Church.
A godparent must be a practicing Catholic who is at least 16 years of age. The godparent must have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation and attend Mass regularly. These requirements are the universal law of the Church and are not determined by the individual parish. If the person you choose as godparent fulfills these requirements, he/she is asked to provide a certificate from their parish stating that they are eligible to be a godparent.
