St. Joseph Church will celebrate baptisms on Saturdays at 11 am or 3 pm and on Sundays at 1:30 pm.
One child will be baptized at each celebration. Currently the guideline for our church allows for a gathering of 25 people.
If you would like to schedule your child’s baptism, please call the parish office at 973-697-6100.
Through Baptism children begin to share the life of Christ with others. The Catholic community of St. Joseph Church helps families prepare for the Sacrament of Baptism. We are happy to answer questions and address concerns.
We look forward to supporting you as you fulfill the sacred duty to share the gift of our Catholic faith with your child!
The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that parents are the first teachers of the faith for their children. Parents are invited to participate in the preparation for the baptism of their children. This helps to develop their faith as well as the faith of their children as they mature.
Scheduling your Child's Baptism
Please be attentive to the steps of preparation:
. Call the parish office [973.697.6100] and express your desire to have your child baptized.
. Introduce yourself to Fr. Jakob if you do not already know him.
. Attend the parish baptismal preparation class. […unless you have been present at this session within the last three years.]
. Be open to the invitation to actively join the faith community of St. Joseph Church.
A godparent must be Catholic, have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation and attend Mass regularly. These requirements are the universal law of the Church and are not determined by the individual parish. If the person you choose as godparent fulfills these requirements, he/she is asked to provide a certificate from their parish stating that they are eligible to be a godparent.
